Sophie
Chang, was born in Taiwan and demonstrated an early aptitude for the visual arts
in her childhood.
She moved to California after earning a MBA degree from the University of
Illinois. Although her background is in business management, Sophie decided to
embrace her love for fine art in the form of oil painting, after being a
full-time mom of two for seven years. Sophie started taking classes in oil
painting and drawing with local artists. Independently, she also studied various
artists via videos, books, and demos. She soon developed her own style of
capturing light and colors on canvas.
Sophie likes to combine her passion for oil painting and traveling. Her richly
colored oil paints are inspired by her travels to Taiwan where she grew up, and
the sunlight of California. Her work often tells the viewer the story of her
journey. Although skilled at painting portraits to still life, landscape holds
the greatest fascination for her. While hiking along mountain trails, rural
roads, and the seashore, she always searches for yet another subject to put on
her canvas. Sophie’s paintings have been exhibited at numerous art shows. She
recently won the second place in the category of oil painting at the annual
juried show by the Art Council of the Conejo Valley.
