Judith Crowe

To get lost in the process with no concern about how the artwork will be viewed by another.....the mode of a true artist!

Judith Crowe took her first art lessons at age five. She states, “Painting and drawing have always been a source of pleasure for me and an important part of my life. My first art lessons were a gift from an aunt and uncle. Artists themselves, they arranged for a friend to give me drawing lessons. I have since worked with a variety of drawing and painting media, including oil, watercolor, colored pencil and pastels. Although my degrees are in education, I did take art classes as electives and continue to take workshops with artists such as Glenna Hartman, Martha Saudek, Brenda Mattson, and Clark Mitchell. I also work with several other artists every Wednesday at Bert Collins’ studio in Ojai, receiving support and critiques that help me continue to grow."

Her style is representational and focuses primarily on landscapes, although she sometimes include figures. Her paintings are consistently described as tranquil, peaceful or serene. She tries to portray the landscape with a focus on composition, shape, light and shadow while experimenting with interesting color combinations. She paints both en plein air and in the studio, often beginning outdoors and then finishing inside with the aid of photographs.

Judith is a member of the Pastel Society of the West Coast, Thousand Oaks Art Association, Ojai Art Center, Buenaventura Art Association, Camarillo Art Center, Westlake Village Art Guild, Arts Council of the Conejo Valley and Ventura County Arts Council. Her work has won numerous awards. She has shown at galleries and art events in Thousand Oaks, Morro Bay, Pismo Beach, Ojai, Ventura, New Orleans and New Hampshire.
