Milken Interview

To get lost in the process with no concern about how the artwork will be viewed by another.....the mode of a true artist!

What was your best classroom moment?
In the art room there are visible opportunities to see an individual’s success – when you see a student's eyes light with inspiration or technical achievement.  I see it everyday.

Hobbies:
I am a productive artist, working mostly 2-dimensionally.  My paintings are considered abstract expressionistic and reflect spirituality and the universal elements.

Why did you decide to become a teacher?
Teaching came naturally to me at a young age.  I like the challenge of taking apart the puzzle or the problem and finding alternative methods for defining solutions.  My teaching style varies according to the learning needs of the individual.  I model the love of learning by sharing courses I am taking, my own professional artistic pursuits and competitions and memberships in arts and architecture organizations.

On other Milken teachers:
The greatest element at the high school is the diversity of the faculty and staff - their backgrounds, interests, specializations – they are an amazing group of inspirational individuals!

Favorite Books:
Zen in the Art of Archery – Eugen Herrigel
A Simple Path - Dali Lama
Gitanjali - Rabindranath Tagore
Fountainhead – Ayn Rand

Favorite quote:
“It is better to be high-spirited even though one makes more mistakes, than to be narrow-minded and all too prudent.”  -Vincent Van Gogh
